Wagerworks / IGT Slots Online

If you’ve spent any amount of time in a casino, then you’re likely to have played Wagerworks or IGT slots. While it might seem as though I’m talking about two separate companies, keep in mind that IGT acquired Wagerworks in 2005. This article is devoted to teaching you a little about the top Wagerworks / IGT slots. In addition, we’ll look at a brief history of the company and note some of the high points of their 50-plus years in business.

History of IGT / WagerWorks

IGT started up in the 1950s, but they didn’t become a publicly traded company until 1981 (thanks to the success of their video poker machines). They are now available on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, as well as being a member of the Standard and Poor’s 500.

In 1986, they pioneered the progressive slot with their release of Nevada Megabucks. It featured a base top jackpot of $1 million, available to any casino that became part of their network.

Specific themes for slots became common in 1990, when IGT released the Double Diamond and Red White & Blue slots. This was also the first year that their games were featured in a Native American casino.

In 2000, IGT released their one-millionth gaming machine. That same year, they revolutionized the gaming industry once again with their EZ Pay ticket technology.

2007 saw the largest penny slot jackpot when $18.8 million was won on a Penny Megabucks machine in Nevada. Two years later, IGT would open their latest international office in Beijing, China.

In 2009 and 2010, IGT won back-to-back honors for Best Slot Manufacturer of the Year at the International Gaming Awards. During this period, they also produced their two millionth slot and merged Wagerworks and Million-2-1 into a global division located in San Francisco.
